How To Feed Raw

There are no hard and fast rules or secret recipe to feeding raw successfully.  Most agree that a raw meaty bones diet and/or a whole prey model is ideal.  It is easy; finding good sources will be the hardest thing you have to do.

Variety is key - and the possibilities are endless.  Beef, chicken, venison, fish, rabbit, elk, moose, turkey, duck, ostrich, lamb, pork...  Make sure you feed organ meats from a hoofed animal at least once a week.  Green tripe is fantastic.

If you are just starting to feed raw, try to introduce each protein one at a time to pinpoint any allergies on the odd chance they arise.

Most sources say feed 2-3% of the dog's weight for adults; 4-6% for puppies.   After awhile you will learn how much your dog needs using his body condition as a guide.  Some need more, some less.

You should be trying for an overall ratio of 70 - 80% meat; 20 - 30% organs and bone.  Don't try to get this balance daily, but rather over the course of a week, or even month.

Many raw feeders fast their dogs for a day every 1-2 weeks.
